Since a lot of modern music is so depressingly void of flavor, I’m on this retro hunt. I’m discovering all this groovy music that our parents dug.
I’m finding that the Boomers were indeed stoned and highly creative… some of the album covers are true pieces of art.

So yeah… crate digging for inspirational vinyl is what this post is about.

I’m very proud to have this addition to my space… the photography of Miss Toni J is breathtaking and I’m honored that she’d collab with me to bring you yet another layer of unique content and perspective as WE SEE IT, here in the cold, cold CHI.

The girl is gifted.

Check the bio: Toni J is a mom, a wife, a photographer, a self-certified intellectual hot chick, and a part-time roller skater who has a serious crush on poetry. She is also a lover of hip-hop, Latin & funk jazz, African high-life, and old soul music. She delights in capturing moments of beauty and glee with her camera and strives to create melodies in still frames.

I’MMA BAD MUTHA: The Rockstar Poetry Project!!!

The Program

I’MMA BAD MUTHA: Rockstar Poetry Project!!!” is a live instrument experiment and studio album presented by Discopoetry Arts & Edutainment Collective. The project brings together a 12-piece ensemble of some of Chicago’s undisputed underground music champions, complimented by the explosive poetic persona of Discopoet Khari B. The Rockstar Poetry Project is the culminating event to a series of live shows and arts experiences known primarily to the influencer segment for years. What began as a musical spark circa 2006 at Chicago’s HotHouse is now a complete studio album filled with all new and original material. Fans and newbies alike are in store for a multi-sensory music experience and get the CD as a takeaway.

The Players

Produced in part with gifted guitarist Frankie Blaze (Crucial Conflict/WE HIT), this album is packed with phenomenal talent in the shape of James “Cuz” Thomes (drums), Jeff Harris (bass), Aum Mu Ra (guitar), Khari Lemuel (cello), Corey Wilkes (trumpet), Kevin Nabors (sax), & Mwata Bowden (bari sax) with Tina Howell, Pia Renee & Saalik Ziyad (vocals).
Guest artists include author Y. Blak Moore (Triple Take, Slippin’) and a few surprises during the show.
